Whose Voice Do You Value?
The voice of my beloved! Behold, he comes, leaping over the mountains, bounding over the hills.
– Song of Solomon 2:8
We often give space to too many voices. It is not Christ’s design for us to heed everyone’s voice. Listening and taking heed to every person’s opinion in your life breeds chaos.
I will issue this challenge: if you are married, Jesus has given you a partner to listen to in which you are in covenant with.
Do you heed and weigh the words they speak?
Do you disregard their opinions and advice?
Do you take your wife or husband seriously when he or she speaks?
Everyone else you try to please and, “take their word for it”, is not in a covenant relationship with you.
There is only one person you share a marriage covenant with: your spouse.
Listen intently to them, heed their voice, listen to their input.
Your husband’s voice is the voice of reason that Jesus has given to you. Pay attention to his voice.
Your wife’s voice is the voice of direction with which the Lord has gifted you with. Weigh her words.
Your husband’s voice is telling you the truth he has heard from Jesus. Take him at his word.
Your wife’s voice is the tender reminder of who you are from the Father. Treasure it.
I know for many there has been hurt and betrayal in your marriage union. I do not want to underestimate or gloss over that hurt. I acknowledge your wounds and so does Father God. However, He placed you in your marriage. If you refuse to give Him your hurt and trust again you will never be able to go forward.
Jesus wants to heal your marriage. The enemy wants to destroy your marriage. We all need to make sure we do not give Satan ammunition by our unforgivness, bitterness or our refusal to go forward by trusting again.
The voice of your spouse is the voice you have been gifted with by the Father. We cannot allow others to supplant, disrupt or disrespect your chosen one’s words either.
Love and honour your spouse as you love and honour Christ.
Come together with your opinions, convictions and heart words. Let your two voices become one as the Holy Spirit refines and transforms your voices to sound like His. This only comes about with mutual honor and submission to Jesus and with one another.
Jesus has given you a gift, love your covenant partner. Value their words only below those of Jesus, but far above the words of onlookers.
